Contaminated system water can affect the efficiency, reliability and working life of a heat pump. For installers, this can mean avoidable faults, additional call-outs and difficult conversations with customers. The SpiroTrap Heat Pump Filter (HPF) provides effective, three-stage protection to help keep heat pump systems operating reliably.
Heat pumps are particularly sensitive to contaminants such as rust, sludge, sand and magnetite. Their pumps, heat exchangers and other components can feature tighter tolerances, making effective dirt removal essential.
Contamination can enter the system during installation or develop over time through corrosion. If it is allowed to circulate, it can contribute to blockages, increased pressure drop, wear and reduced system performance. With heat pumps representing a significant investment for homeowners, protecting the system water from the outset is vital.
Designed with installers in mind
The SpiroTrap HPF has been developed specifically for heat pump systems, with ease of installation and maintenance among its key design priorities.
Even relatively small particles can affect sensitive system components. The SpiroTrap HPF removes magnetic and non-magnetic dirt from the system water, helping prevent contamination from reaching critical components and affecting system performance.
Three-stage protection
The SpiroTrap HPF combines three methods of dirt removal within one robust brass unit.
As the system water enters the separator, the patented SpiroTube slows the flow and guides dirt towards the collection zone. A powerful external magnet captures magnetic contamination, including magnetite, while the 160 μm fine-mesh filter captures high-risk particles larger than 160 μm.
Together, these three stages provide effective protection against a wide range of contaminants commonly found in heating systems.
Full-flow system protection
The SpiroTrap HPF uses a full-flow design, with no bypass required. This means the system water passes through the filter during normal operation, ensuring contaminants cannot simply bypass the filtration process.
The integrated MultiMode Swivel gives installers control over the flow through the unit and provides three clearly defined operating positions:
- Normal operation, allowing system water to flow through the filter
- Backflush mode, reversing the water flow to flush collected dirt through the drain valve
- Closed mode, stopping the flow so the filter can be safely cleaned
- Clear click positions make it easy to select the required mode, helping make both operation and maintenance straightforward.
Tool-free backflushing
Routine maintenance can be completed without dismantling the unit or removing the filter.
When the MultiMode Swivel is placed in backflush mode, water is directed through the filter in reverse. Accumulated dirt is flushed out through the drain valve, making the process quick, clean and tool-free.
Manual cleaning is only required where there is exceptional contamination. This makes the SpiroTrap HPF easy to maintain as part of routine heat pump servicing, helping installers keep service visits simple and predictable.
Fewer call-outs and greater customer confidence
Dirt-related heat pump faults can lead to additional call-outs and questions about their cause. By combining the patented SpiroTube, powerful external magnet and 160 μm fine-mesh filter, the SpiroTrap HPF provides installers with a practical way to remove contamination from the system water.
Effective dirt removal helps protect sensitive components, maintain system performance and reduce the risk of contamination-related problems. For installers, this means straightforward servicing, reliable system protection and greater customer confidence in the finished installation.
